As a part of our goal to host a great NTA Convention, even the Saturday night dance is getting serious attention. We wanted to get one of the better bands in our area and feel that we have succeeded!
Many Yoopers fondly remember The Whitens Brothers and Night Train, a couple of the most popular bands in the Upper Peninsula and Northeastern Wisconsin from the mid-seventies till recent times. The band that will be playing for us on Saturday night, Runaway Train, has its roots in these extremely popular area bands. Two of its present members were part of The Whitens Brothers and two were with Night Train. Two sons of Russell Whitens, round out the group. This much history, talent, and experience blend into a Country and Bluegrass Band that can play what the crowd wants – from country to classic country, to classic rock, and a great mix of bluegrass and vocal harmonies! They can choose their selections depending on the age, type, and interests of the audience. Their members are Russell Whitens (fiddle, guitar), his sister Jalaine Bellmore (vocals, banjo), Russell’s son’s Dave (guitar, vocals) & James (drums), Keith Gurgall (bass, vocals), and Jeff Neville (guitar).
This six piece band has been together for about three years and enjoy playing for festivals, fairs, and other large gatherings – like the Hodag Country Festival in Rhinelander Wisconsin and the Porterfield Country Fest in Porterfield Wisconsin.
Stop by the Miracle of Life Building on Saturday Night and check out one of the best bands our area has to offer.
